Established in 2001, Barnsite Gallery, under thedirection of Norma Bell
has earned a reputation for excellence, exhibiting some of the finestrepresentational oil painters in the United States and Asia.Technically well-skilled, the painters, all of whom are masterdraftsmen, demonstrate the finest caliber of artistic merit in theirwork.Figurative, portraiture, and landscape paintings are on exhibit in abeautifully refurbished 100-year-old barn whose architectural elementscompliment the beauty and sweeping scope of the works.
A Wealth of Rare Art Books
Throughout the world, the painters of the period 1860 – 1920 were re-establishing the tradition of realism. Over the years, many of the major contributors to the movement have disappeared from the artistic landscape. In an effort to recognize the contributions of these painters, recognized as well as forgotten, we seek out and secure related hard-to find books.Included in the Barnsite Gallery library are editions and texts featuring Spanish painter Joaquin Sorolla, Swedish realist Anders Zorn,and figurative German painter Adolph Menzel. Also of special note are works exploring the history and contributions of the Russian Itinerant Movement and Glasgow Boys.
The Kewaunee Academy of Fine Art Fosters High Standards
Under the direction of renowned artist Craig Blietz, Barnsite’s Kewaunee Academy features an intensive curriculum devoted to drawingand painting. In preparation for careers as practicing professional artists, the students are taught the classical techniques and methods introduced before the Renaissance and perfected by the Masters.Recognized for its dedication to the highest standards and techniques, the Academy’s curriculum fosters a spirit of creativity grounded in discipline. Throughout their course of study, students are assessed ontheir individual progress, and advance based on the recommendation of the Artistic Director. Year round programs include an academic year-based academy, as well as summer intensives and workshops.
